The Union des Photographes Professionnels launched the 2023 Photography Barometer.

Twice a year, the organization will invite you to take part in a shared survey.
To defend ourselves better, we need to know each other better.

Who we are
How many of us are there?
How is the business evolving?
What are our difficulties?
What are our sources of income?

We would like to thank all those who took the time to answer our questionnaire.

Here is the summary of this first study, launched at the end of 2023:

  1. Population

- Survey population: 703

- 35% women and 65% men

- 51% live in a large urban area (half of them in the Paris region)

  1. By-laws and activities

In our population :
- 15% artists/authors
- 15% micro entrepreneurs
- 14% craftsmen
- the remainder are students, photojournalists, in company, salaried, or combining two statuses.

76% have photography as their main activity. Of the remaining 24%, the majority have another activity.

  1. Income :

- 26% of the population income < 10k € / year

- 22% of the population income between 10k and 20k € / year

- 34% of the population income between 20k and 65k € / year

- 17% of the population income > 65k € / year

  1. Implementation actions :

- Large majority: work on digital image (Site and RS)

- ⅓ is looking to expand their business sector

- AI and loss of income are the main sources of anxiety

  1. Structures and ecosystem :

- The vast majority of respondents have a poor image of state and government structures (Government, Ministry of Culture, Ministries of Finance, towns, Regional Councils, URSSAF Limousin).

- 69% belong to a trade union or professional organization

- Very positive feedback on the two main organizations, UPP and FFPMI

For a fuller analysis, we invite you to consult the presentation by Lilia El Goli, UPP Deputy General Secretary.
