Winner of the 7th Laurent Troude scholarship
Fiora Garenzi, winner of the 7th Laurent Troude scholarship
The jury for the Laurent Troude Grant, designed to support photographers under 30 with a project in France, chose Fiora Garenzi'sL'odeur du maquis après la pluie. This series focuses on her connection with Corsica.
Photojournalist Laurent Troude (1968-2018) has spent his entire career in the press. He started out at the age of 20 at L'Humanité with social photography, before moving on to L'Équipe, then Libération in 1996, which was his home for over twenty years. His photography often stands out at first glance, with its shifted vision of an event, its original angles, its uncompromising and human way of portraying the political world and its players. When he passed away in 2018, at the age of 50, an association in his name was founded to launch a grant to help photographers under 30 with projects in France.
The Laurent Troude Bursary rewards a photographer with an endowment from SAIF and Libération totalling 8,000 euros, an entrance fee and a free one-year subscription to Divergence Images. The award was presented on April 3 in Bordeaux, in partnership with Cdanslaboite, as part of the Mois de la Photo.
The jury was composed of :
- Laurent Abadjian, director of photography, Télérama
- Jany Bianco-Mula, photo editor at Les Echos Week-end
- Pierre Ciot, photographer and vice-president of SAIF
- Alain Gerst, iconographer, Libération
- Isabelle Grattard, photo editor at Libération
- Albert Facelly, photographer and member of DivergenceImages
- Marion Parent, photographer and representative of the Cdanslaboite association
- Frédérique Rondet, ex-iconographer at Libération
- Mina Rouabah, former photo editor at Libération
The jury also singled out the following as special mentions:
- "Aller sans-retour" by Bastien Carayol, about youth in Mazamet.
- "What does it mean to be free?" by Juliette Dupuis Carle, about the psychological impact of domestic violence.
